Origin story
TON, first the Telegram Open Network, was designed by brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov, founders of Telegram. Telegram raised about 1.7 billion dollars for its Gram token in 2018.
In October 2019 the SEC won an order stopping the Gram distribution, and Telegram dropped the project in May 2020. Independent developers continued the open source code as The Open Network, with Toncoin as its token.
