Origin story
IOTA was founded in 2015 by David Sonstebo, Sergey Ivancheglo, Dominik Schiener and Serguei Popov, aiming at machine to machine payments for the internet of things. It started with the Tangle, a structure without blocks or fees.
The IOTA Foundation, a nonprofit in Berlin, oversees development.
