Origin story
Aave began as ETHLend, a peer to peer lending platform founded by Stani Kulechov, which raised money in a November 2017 ICO with the LEND token. It rebranded as Aave, Finnish for ghost, in 2018.
The Aave lending protocol launched on Ethereum in January 2020 and introduced flash loans. In October 2020 LEND was swapped for AAVE at 100 to 1.
