Origin story

Algorand was founded by Silvio Micali, an MIT professor and Turing Award winner known for zero knowledge proofs. Its pure proof of stake uses verifiable random functions to pick block proposers.

The mainnet launched in June 2019, with a Dutch auction token sale that month.
