The trade-offs
Dogecoin is a distant descendant of Bitcoin's code, by way of Litecoin, but the two have opposite money policies. Bitcoin's supply is fixed and its issuance halves every four years. Dogecoin adds about 5 billion new coins a year forever, so its percentage inflation slowly falls but never reaches zero.
Dogecoin's faster blocks make small payments confirm quicker, and fees are low. Bitcoin has far more security from mining power and much deeper markets. Price behavior differs too: Dogecoin's biggest moves follow social media, as our Musk timeline shows.
