Ethereum's public crowdsale opened on July 22, 2014 and ran for 42 days. Buyers paid in bitcoin and received ether at about 2,000 ETH per BTC early on. It raised roughly 31,500 BTC, then worth around 18 million dollars, to fund development through the Ethereum Foundation.
