Bitcoin whitepaper published Oct 31, 2008
On October 31, 2008, a person or group using the name Satoshi Nakamoto posted "Bitcoin: A Peer to Peer Electronic Cash System" to a cryptography mailing list. The paper explained how a chain of blocks secured by proof of work could stop people from spending the same coin twice without a trusted company in charge.
