The fourth halving happened at block 840,000, mined on April 20, 2024 (UTC). The reward fell to 3.125 BTC per block. It was the first halving to arrive after bitcoin had already hit a new record high, thanks largely to the ETF launch.
The same block launched the Runes token protocol, and fees spiked briefly as people rushed to mint tokens in it.
